Song & Dances of the Napoleon Period
It begins with the Polonaise B-dur by Frederic Chopin. This music gives an audience the possibility to familiarize with the patriotic atmosphere of the period. Among characteristic dances of this historic period an audience may see waltz, polonaise, mazurka. At the request, the folk group invites an audience to dance polonaise (teaching basic elements of this dance). This part is finished by the patriotic song sang by male members of the group.
Set of characteristic dances of the South – Eastern part of Poland, among others: mach, cygan, polka, oberek, which constitute one of the most interesting parts of Gaik’s repertoire. There are many amusing elements, but also very funny play with a cow and dances with whips. What is more, an audience is also asked to take part in a competition of cracking a whip.
Set of dances and songs characteristic for this region, such as: polka bez noge, kucana, powróz and dzwon. This part is also very dynamic and it is danced in beautiful costumes. An audience is amused by a play with hats.
A beautiful, traditional costume characteristic for this region of Poland is known almost by everyone. Krakowiak - dynamic dance constitutes the most famous folk dance very well illustrating our national character. The following songs from this region are widely recognizable: “Albośmy to jacy tacy…”, or “Płynie Wisła, płynie…”. At the request, the folk group invites an audience to dance waltz or polka (teaching basic elements of these dances). A very funny play with a cow and dances with whips may also belong to this part of repertoire.
